6. Beauty Secrets

  1. Down to your last bit of lipstick? Melt it for about 30-40 seconds in the microwave and pour into a pill container to create a new lip palette.
  2. Do you have a little bit of blush, bronzer or any powder that’s nearly ready for the trash? Well, mix it all together to create your own blush/bronzer. Just scrape out the powder and crush it into a small jar and you will have a loose powder.
  3. Try and find multipurpose items like the All Over Color Stick. This is great because it acts as a blush, eyeshadow and gloss all in 1.
  4. I love using vaseline for everthing from lip gloss to added shine under eyeshadow to intensive moisturizer. It's cheap and has so many uses!
  5. Also, if I have flyaways in my hair, I'll rub a little lotion in my hands and smooth it over them. While I may not always have hair products with me, I always have lotion. So, it's cheaper and available.
  6. To expand on using Vaseline: I use a tiny bit to brush over my eyebrows especially when they're being stubborn and unruly.
  7. I've also heard of mixing Kool Aid with Vaseline to make a tasty and colorful lipgloss. I haven't tried this one myself though.
  8. I would also say don't fool yourself into buying expensive false eyelashes.
  9. In the winter, I mix a foundation that's just a shade darker than my skin tone with my moisturizer. It makes the foundation last twice as long and keeps my face from drying out from the cold.
  10. I also mix epsom saly with conditioner to deep condition my hair and keep my curls fresh. You mix with a 1:1 ration and then microwave for 30 seconds. Run through hair and let sit for 20 minutes then rinse. Perfect!
  11. Instead of buying tinted moisturizer, I just mix my foundation with my moisturizer.
  12. I have a few nasty dark scars on my cheaks and one on my chin, When I've been low on conceler to cover these more bluish areas I've used under eye concearler that was meant for those hard to hide circles that all of us hard working college students get. It covers the area perfectly and neutralizes the slight hint left over from deep acne, and you dont have to use very much of it.
  13. Also, vinegar is great for a dry scalp and baking soda makes a wonderful exfoliator.
  14. if you buy some makeup thats not ur color or you dont want to use it anymore, substitute it for something else. EX. i have old liquid foundation and i only use powder now - so i use the liquid as eyeshadow primer!! and if a blush i don't like, i use it sometimes as lipstick!
  15. A lipstick can also be used as blush and eyeshadow as well.If you dont have anything else available just use lipstick for a replacement of blush and eyeshadow. It really works great
  16. I like to make my own face scrub by mixing sugar with honey. it works great and it makes my skin soo soft.
  17. I use the coffee eyeliner pencil as my eyebrow pencil too, lip balm as a cuticle conditioner, & luminous bronzer powder as highlighting eyeshadow. I use vaseline to remove eye makeup, soften hands/cuticles, & soften heels/elbows. Hair conditioner can also be used as shaving cream. I try to use multi-purpose products as much as possible to save time, space & money.
  18. I use baby wash to remove my makeup
  19. I mix up nearly used up nail polishes or those that i dont like any more to create new ones. Its real fun, thrifty and u get beautiful unique shades u cannot find anywhere else.
  20. If i'm running out of eyeliner or liquid eyeliner i use one for the end of my eye and the other along the line so they don't run out as fast and my eyeliner line is still even =)
  21. another great tip is don't waste your money on liquid eyeliner. just use a eyeliner brush and mascara. It stays on longer, is free, and is extremally easy to apply. All you have to do is dip the eyeliner brush into the mascara and apply!
  22. Vaseline is awesome, I second that! Use it on your lips, your elbows, your feet overnight and it softens the skin right up. :) Vaseline makes your lips perfectly primed for all your ELF products, too! And never underestimate the value of regularly using face lotion to keep your skin protected from the sun and the elements.
  23. I'm a biggie for at home facial care. -ACV (apple cider vinegar) works wonders as a toner and on scars -A few teaspoons of granulated sugar works AMAZING for an exfoliant. I use it on my lips and around my nose in winter where my skin tends to getg dry -Conditoner works super well for eye makeup removal! I have a lot of allergies to soaps and such, and I'm leery on what eye makeup remover to use. I just use some J&J tear-free baby conditioner, which doesn't irritate my eyes at all. Quite a bit cheaper as well!
  24. My concealer sticks to the sides and the applicator is too small!! I've learnt to put in hot water for a few minutes and the concealer will melt to the bottom where the applicator is! This also works with lip glosses!
  25. If you have no hairspray or gel handy, get a little hand lotion and smooth over flyaways for instant control. Also, if you feel like you need to refresh your makeup throughout the day, buy one of those inexpensive little spray bottles, fill it with water and mist your face throughout the day. It keeps your face HYDRATED! =D
  26. If you finish your mascara and ready to dump it out, you could always save the wand and use it for brows or lashes. just make shure to clean it with make-up remover, lol.
  27. i sometimes spritz a bit of my favorite fragrance onto my brush before brushing my hair so it'd smell nice..you still get the scent on you but wouldn't be as strong =)
  28. When your nail polish has lost its liquid-like consistency and started to become clumpy, put some acetone in it. It will work just like new again! I've always used this trick, it works wonders!
  29. one tip that i have is if you have a couple of lip sticks that one is to dark and one is too light i have been known to melt them down and mix them together to get a new shade. i than put them into little containers
  30. Wow... I love the microwave new lip pelette idea. I am planning to use the ice tray instead of pill container.
  31. When I run out of eyeliner, I just use whatever eyeshadow I have laying around. I take my eyeshadow brush, dampen it with water, and dip it in my eyeshadow! Then I use it to line my eyes, smudge a little, and I'm good to go!
  32. i squeeze sunscreen into a little eye cream jar that i can easily carry with me everywhere. it reminds me to always wear sunscreen, no excuses!
  33. to make mineral makeup last longer and smoother on my face, i make sure to wash my face thoroughly and apply a thin layer of face cream with spf, not foundation. when i do, my face glows with health!
  34. Tip for an almost empty lip gloss. Boil some water and put it in a cup. Put all your almost empty lip gloss and leave for 5-6 minutes. You’ll be surprise to see almost half is still there! A lot of savings! :-)
  35. i use contact holders and add a little bit of petroleum jelly and old powder or eye shadow and make my own colored lipstick
  36. I have taken some broken blush, crushed it up and poured the powder into a clear nailpolish bottle. Mix well, and you have a subtley tinted and sparkley new nail polish!
  37. Rather than using expensive products to remove your make up, I use tissues, cotton swabs (Q-tips) and baby wipes. They do wonders and the Q-tips work great to remove your eye make up.
  38. Also, when applying Mascara, you should never pump the wand because it seems to cause clumps and air bubbles in the container. if there are lumps on the wand, then brush it against the inside of the lips of the container and then when you apply it, tilt your head all the way back and as you brush from root to tip, shake the wand back and forth. This gives great coverage, separates lashes rather than clumping and making the spider leg effect and eliminates the chance of getting mascara on your eye lid after you made them perfect already with the eye shadow. And any coat after the first doubles your chances of getting clumpy lashes so i would suggest trying for just a single coat.
  39. Anather tip, when usuing lip liner, always fill in the whole lip and then add lip stick or gloss or whatever on top, that way when the color leaves the lip it doesn't leave the out line and cause a clown or ghetto look. it can really make a big difference. And if you are out of eye liner or you just want to have eye liner in a color you can't find or you don't have, just wet a small brush and use mineral, eyeshadow or blush. It can actually work better than some eye liners and you can make it any color you want.
  40. Vaseline works well as a shadestick to hold the color of your eyeshadow longer as well and sometimes I want to smell nice but I want to give my skin a nice drink so I use a nicely scented lotion rather than a perfume. I hope these may help someone and if i think of any thing else then I will be sure to post again.
  41. If you ever have a broken pigment, all you need to do is add a few drops of rubbing alcohol and press the pigment back into the container.
  42. If you have a lip liner that you do not use, you can use it as an eye liner since they are made out of the same things
  43. When a nail polish dries up, just add a little bit of nail polish remover into the bottle and shake well. It should be as good as new

Eyes

  1. Ouch!! - Plucking your eyebrows in pain, try icing your brows 10 seconds prior to plucking to numb the skin.
  2. Want the perfect lash? - To get that perfect lash, heat your eyelash curler with a blow-dryer for a few seconds ( make sure it is not too hot before curling ). Heat will lock in the lengthy curl.
  3. Freeze! Puffy, droopy and under eye circles got you down? - Grab a Gel Mask! Pop in the freezer for a few minutes to chill, strap on and watch those dreary eyes awaken! ( a few minutes a day wearing a chilled gel eye mask has been shown to reduce the signs of aging.)
  4. Want to minimize "crows feet"? - Wearing sunglasses can help protect your eyes from harmful sun rays, but also can prevent pre-mature aging due to squinting, not to mention sunglasses are the perfect fashion accessory!
  5. Creasing eye shadow? - Avoid wearing eye moisturizer with shimmer eye shadows, it breaks up the consistency of the shadow and causes creasing.
  6. Fading eye shadow? - Use shielding hydro-tint as a base on your eyes to keep your eye shadow lasting and fresh!
  7. Out of eye shadow? - No need to fret, brush on some bronzer or blush for a soft glow of color on the eyes!
  8. Out of eyeliner? - Use your mascara and apply with an eyeliner brush, looks just like liquid eyeliner it will last all day!

  10. Raccoon eyes? - Did you sleep with your mascara on, and there's no eye makeup remover in sight? No worries, grab some kitchen standards to save the day! Use a little vegetable oil or butter on a cotton pad or tissue. Gently pat around your eyes. Not only will it remove the makeup , but it moisturizes too!!
  11. Light Lashes? - Try using brown mascara instead of black. Black can be too much of a contrast if your lashes and brows are too light!
  12. Spare your lashes! - Never use your eyelash curler after applying your mascara! Always use it before or you may pull out your eyelashes!!
  13. Keep getting clumps on your lashes?? - Try wiping off excess mascara from your mascara wand with a tissue before use to prevent clumps on your lashes!
  14. Want younger looking eyes? - Apply a little eye cream on the brow bone and under the eyes. Then dab on a concealer that matches your skin tone. The last thing to do is line your eyes with a pencil just below the lash line. This will give the impression of larger and brighter eyes!
  15. Thinning brows? - Have your hair stylist dye them for you. For an at home treatment you can use eye shadow to fill them in!
  16. Use powder! - When filling in your brows try using powder! Although brow pencils may last longer, powder creates a more natural look! Set color in with a clear brow gel.
  17. Shades of yellow! - Using shades of yellow on your eyelids will make the white in you eye pop!
  18. Droopy eyes got you down? - Line the top eyelid with eyeliner at the outer corner or the lash line and draw the line upwards. To make it look softer, apply eye shadow on top of the line, or you can smudge it in with your finger!
  19. Has your beautician messed up your eyebrows? - Brush the brows straight up with an eyebrow comb. . With the eyebrow pencil, draw short, feathery strokes on the hairs around the sparse areas. . Use an eye-shadow, which matches your brows to make the desired shape. . Press some powder lightly onto the area. Then brush them back to their natural shape.
  20. Dark Circles? - If you have dark circles under your eyes, don't apply eyeliner until dark circles are covered with concealer. Or else your eyes will become too dark!
  21. From thick to thin! - Eyeliner should be applied close to base of eyelashes to make them look thicker. Start with a thicker line on the outer edge of your lid with elbow on table for stability, draw the line towards inner corner of your eye, thinning the line as you go.
  22. Small Eyes – Don’t use too much shadow or liner; it will make your eyes look smaller. Apply a light color onto your eyelids, use a darker color in the crease and use a highlighter under the brow.
  23. Large Eyes - Wear a darker shadow on the lid and extend it to the crease. Use a flat color under the brow to highlight.
  24. Deep Set Eyes - Use light colors on the eyelid and under the brow. Use a medium color in the crease. Emphasize the outer corners with shadow.
  25. Hooded Eyes - Apply light colors onto your lids. Use darker colors from the center of the eyelid to the outer corners and blend.
  26. Round Eyes - Make round eyes longer by using color all around and extending toward the outer corners.
  27. SMOKEY EYE! - For natural Smokey looking eyes, smudge in your eyeliner by creating tiny circular motions near the lashes to blend in the color!
  28. Get rid of those dark circles!!! – Here's 6 ways to help eliminate dark circles: 1. Get enough sleep. Try to go to bed a little earlier than you normally would. 2. Cucumber slices have a soothing effect on the eyes. 3. Use sunscreen every day and moisturize in the night preferably using a good under eye cream. 4. Drink plenty of water to hydrate the skin. 5. Apply cold compresses. 6. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Iron deficiency can be a cause for dark circles around the eyes.
  29. Dark Circles - Take 2 teabags that you have already used put them in the freezer until they are cold (30 mins) then put them on your eyes use this tip daily and watch your dark circles fade away bring these teabags to use instead of wasting them. (I recommend Mariage Freres teas)
  30. Eye Widener Pencil - The Eye Widener pencil works for so many uses other uses than just the eyes- blend it over your upper lip to enhance the 'bow', blend it under eyebrows to enhance the arch, if your inner eye socket looks dark and you don't have your concealer, smudge a little there for an instant brightening effect, and don't forget, if you have 'marionnette' lines on the sides of your mouth, it will lighten them up too.

  43. Absorb that oil! - To help absorb excess oil from your roots, use a little tea tree oil with your shampoo!
  44. How to Shampoo oily hair! - When shampooing oily hair, press it into your roots with your fingertips rather than rubbing it into your scalp!
  45. Don’t brush!! - Try not to brush your hair so much. Too much brushing or combing will stimulate the glands to produce oil!!
  46. Towel Dry First!! - Never blow your hair straight out of the shower! Towel dry your hair first! It will take you less time to blow your hair and it will keep your hair healthier!
  47. Is your skin oil or blemish prone? - Use a spray sun tan lotion instead of lotions or creams which can clog your pores!
  48. Exfoliate - When your self tanner starts to fade, use an exfoliator to even out your skin.
  49. Smell Good- LONGER! - To keep your perfume smelling good longer, mix a bit of it in with your moisturizer and apply!
  50. Base coat first! – Don’t forget to apply a top base coat on your nails before you apply polish to prevent your nails from turning yellow!!
  51. Go Ionic! - Try using an ionic dryer on your hair in the summer. It will do less damage to your hair and it will also reduce frizz!
  52. Clay Masks!! - Not only are they an excellent way to get excess oil out from your pores but the clay actually dries up pimples and can also sooth your skin from those itchy bug bites!!!
  53. Sensitive skin? - Avoid using lotions that are heavily fragranced or contain essential oils. They are all natural, however some can irritate sensitive skin!
  54. Clarify! - Using too many hair products can damage your hair! Use a clarifying shampoo at least once a week to get rid of buildup!
  55. Shave it! - To get rid of ALL your underarm hair when shaving, make sure you shave in every direction! You do this because your hair grows in every direction and if you only shave one way you won’t get every hair!
  56. Change it! - Always remember to change the blade on your shaver! Bacteria builds up on it which can harm you if you cut yourself when shaving!!!
  57. Period?? - DO NOT WAX! Waxing during this time can really hurt! Wait until the week after when your hormone levels go down. It won’t hurt as much and you’ll get fewer bumps!
  58. Got nails that won’t dry? - Dip them in a bowl of ice water. It should freeze them right up!
  59. Switch it up! - To keep hair healthy you should use different shampoos. Try switching it up once a month. This will help reduce buildup.
  60. Hair Tips! - Shampoo less frequently- 3 times a week, unless your hair is oily. Avoid the high setting on your blow dryer, and whenever possible let your hair dry naturally!
  61. HYPER?????? - Run your wrists under cold water for a couple of minutes to calm yourself down!!
  62. Want soft skin? - To keep your skin soft and supple, you should moisturize your whole body twice a day. This will also help reduce stretch marks and prevent pre-mature aging!!
  63. Large Pores? - To take care of enlarged skin pores you need lemon juice and orange juice. Mix the juices and apply all over your face in upward and outward stokes. Wash it after 10 minutes. This is also a good facial mask for oily skin!!
  64. Oh No!!! – You’ve dropped something on your dress and its going to stain!!! No worries! Grab some club soda and press it into the stain. Sprinkle some salt on top and let it sit and soak up the stain for a few minutes then just wipe it away!
  65. Create your own colors - I've found that the empty Elements compact cases are perfect for mixing your own custom shades of lip gloss or cream eye shadow. Just select your favorite E.L.F colors and mix them until you create your very own new shade of gloss or shadow! Mix a variety of different glosses or shadows and you have your own mini travel set--customized to your skin-tone. Your new combinations will keep perfectly in the Elements compact case!
  66. Cleaning Brushes - Use the vacuum, yes the vacuum to clean your brushes! Hold them tight (so you don't vacuum them up!) and close to the open end of the vacuum hose, then let it clean and fluff your brushes! Works great!
  67. Burning Scalp - If your beautician is using bleach and it burns your scalp (or usually does), ask them to put one packet of the pink stuff (Sweet n Low) in the mixture. No more burning and it does not affect the coloring!

  2. Interesting content.

Just wanted to share some information that may help busy professionals caught up with work and who have less time to maintain their nails. You can try out gel nails which are now becoming a hot favorite as they are natural looking even without nail tips and the best way for nail enhancement. Also, if you are allergic to those strong smelling chemicals which you can experience with acrylic nails, then you should use gel nails as these are odorless.

However, when you are planning on gel nail application, make sure you approach a nail salon or a nail artist who is well versed with gel nails and is properly trained and mastered in gel applications. This will save you from problems that can arise with improper gel nail applications.
